Friday Update...

hey everyone..

just wanted to give a quick update on what's been going on. i finished mixing another batch of 3 new songs today---"Not Listening", "This Is.." and "Don't Question." we'll get those posted on our sites within the next couple of days. we also have a couple that are close to being finished---"Drift On", "Life Can Go" and "Defrost Mode." it's my hope to mix those 3 before my wife & i leave for Seattle and Portland next weekend. (for the record.....we're REALLY excited about that trip!!!)

so 2010 has definitely started with a big bang for Chris & i! we wanted to thank you all for listening to our songs...i still can't believe how many plays they are getting! it means the world to us that you all are listening & supporting our musical journey.

some album news.....

yup. ALBUM NEWS!!! we got word from my sister, Maura last week that she's just about done with the three rough drafts for the album artwork!! we should see them this weekend and we're really excited to see what she's come up with!!! the next step is picking one of those 3 drafts. our copyrights for the album should be arriving very soon, so the timing of Maura's email was perfect.

once we have everything squared away, "Here We Are" will be up on iTunes and possibly Amazon or cdBaby.

this is truly something that i never imagined happening & i just want to thank Chris, Laurel, Allison, Maura and all of our friends & family.

thanks.

be on the lookout for those 3 new songs in the next few days.

happy friday,
Matt

Best Half

hi everyone....

it's a snowy day here in Waco, so i'm finally getting around to posting this blog while i mix the next batch of tunes.

there are so many things that i could say about this song & what it means to me. but after a lot of thought, i've decided to keep it short & sweet.

this song was written for & is about my wife---the love of my life. she keeps me grounded & has the biggest heart of anyone that i've ever met. i am beyond thankful & grateful to have her in my life.

thank you, Laurel.

Misconception; 2 of 3 new song releases this weekend!

Hey everybody

Busy weekend in Cluthe & Lee music land! Misconception started out as a drum loop that I built a few months ago. Without a real full drum kit (its coming, don't worry) I've been working on developing these loops that aren't monotonous and have tempo changes. This one came up and I liked it so much I put down some basic chords to them. It started sounding a bit vanilla and so as usual I put some weird fucked up chords in it and asked Matt to get out his Strat and solo! Matt's chops are getting better by the second people! Its one of the songs where all of our guitar work managed to stay. Its not easy playing 700 miles apart from one another, but this song sounds like he may have been standing recording his solo while I was playing mine. Turn it up and enjoy! Thanks for all the support guys and gals! I see Man of the Mountain has a lot of plays already! Very cool!

Man Of The Mountain

hey everyone out there in cyberworld...

Matt here. just wanted to share some info on what Chris & I have going on and tell you about the song we just posted. first off, we're going to be posting 3 new songs over the weekend...one per day...and it all starts of with "Man Of The Mountain."

this is a song that i wrote right around the time that my old band, End Result, was coming to an end & i was starting to play a lot of solo shows in & around Houston. i think it's safe to say that this one was inspired by reading John Krakauer's novel "Into The Wild."

my take on this song is simple & has been written about time & time again. it's all about an individual's search for purpose. take the character in this song...he leaves all that he knows & loves behind to find himself. he will only return once he feels that he is once again himself & on solid ground. i think it's a thought that everyone can relate to at one time or another.

like i said, i wrote this one a few years ago & i've played it live many, many times. but no matter how many times i played it, it felt like it was lacking a backbone. i shared an old & rough demo of this song with Chris & he was excited to work on it. we pushed it back a bit b/c we were so focused on the other new tunes, but i finally got around to re-recording the bones of the song along with the bass track & sent it off to Chris. to put it simply, he finished it. his lead work elevates this song to somewhere that i didn't even know it could go.

so, there you have it! we'll be posting 2 new ones this weekend--"Best Half" & "Misconception." we also have a few others that are coming along nicely. until then, enjoy the song & thanks for your support & for listening!

In A Corner rocking out!

Hi all

I meant to get this blog done on Friday, but my work PC sucks (yeah Mac!).

The latest song called "In A Corner" was posted on Friday and I see we've already had some plays! When I wrote this one about 3 weeks ago I had been on a bit of a Led Zeppelin kick. I had also started messing around with alternate tunings and came back to one that has been used on several others (A Harmless Song, Let The Music Play).
Combine that open D tuning with a capo and some Zeppelin and you have "In A Corner."

Matt's reaction to it was immediate! He wrote back saying it was a song that was 'in his wheel house' and I'd say within a day he had these searing vocals laid down. When he sent it back and it took off from there. Matt's slide guitar work on this is just flat out awesome and added this nasty/awesome element to it : )

Enjoy this blues/zep/nasty-awesome infused tune and I promise not to use the words nasty-awesome every again, ha!!

up next...

hello all..

it's matt. i'm taking a break from listening to some early mixes of our next batch of songs & thought i'd drop a line. since christmas, chris & i have been churning out these songs at a crazy pace & we're having a blast. they're all so different & it's always exciting when he sends me a new idea because i have no clue what it will sound like & how my musical brain will react.

right now we have 3 solid songs that are in various stages of production, with a few others waiting in the wings. i thought i'd share a little bit about each one of these three to serve as a preview for when we post them.

"in a corner"

this song has been known as "Zep Song" to chris & i for the last couple of weeks. we needed to a concrete title, so i thought about the lyrics & theme, and "in a corner" popped into my head. this one is a two and a half minute bluesy stomp of rock n' roll. chris wrote it & i immediately knew that this one was going to be fun to work on.

"man of the mountain"

this is a song of mine that i wrote about a year or so ago. it always seemed like it was missing a few parts. enter chris & his awesome lead guitar work & drumming/percussion. i've just finished the slide guitar work on this one & it should be a lot of fun to mix & see how it ends up.

"my best half"

a song i wrote a couple of days after hearing "in a corner" when chris re-introduced me to open D tuning. it really came together pretty quickly. i had a rough sketch & chris helped me whittle it down a bit and he also added some beautiful guitar lines that took it to a completely different level. it's for my best half, Laurel.

aside from those three little ditties, we've been talking & exchanging a few other ideas as well. among them is a riff-infused gem that chris wrote & a piano ballad that i've been working on for awhile. can't wait to share them with you all soon. until then, thanks for listening.

Grown!

Happy Wednesday to all our friends out there!

Chris here writing to let you know about our newest post "Grown" which was mixed a few days back. Once again Matt and I continue to explore a variety of musical terrains and "Grown" can be thrown into several catagories I think. A very moody opening showcasing something like 5-6 vocal tracks Matt put together. On my first listen I got major chills which is a good indication that we've done something powerful, unique, soulful....

I had a pretty solid idea of what I wanted this song to sound like right from the start and Matt did an incredible job finishing my musical thought (we do that a lot actually). This song uses simple chords and live drums much like the last few we've posted. Matt has a solo in here that is unlike anything he's played EVER. I have really been pushing him with the solo's lately and I know you'll hear the results on this song. Matt's feedback to "Grown" was overwhelmingly positive and he's told me he feels like my songwriting has gotten better as we collaborate : )

We are still in a holding pattern on hearing back from the government on copyrighting our first LP, but should be hearing something hopefully this month. From what Matt told me, the artwork is in development and is picking up steam, so stay tuned! In the meantime you can hear everything at www.reverbnation.com/presentlyfalling and go over to our new blog at www.leeandcluthemusic.blogspot.com to check out what we're up to! Thanks so much for all the support! We have been watching the playlist counts and are thrilled our stuff is getting to your ears!

So here it is guys and gals, say hello to "Grown." Enjoy!

Matt: Vocals/Harmonies/Lyrics, Slide Guitar, Lead Electric Guitar
